PATHWAY SQUAD
Our Pathway squad follows the Training to Train and Training to Compete areas of the Athlete Development Support Pathway (ADSP). Coaches and swimmers will continue working on the Advanced Swimming Skills programme as part of the Athlete Development Support Pathway.
Swimmers in this squad are working towards gaining Regional Times across a range of distances and strokes and expected to compete in a variety of competitions as recommended by the coaches/Team Manager. Your swimmers will still be building on the Advanced Swimming Skills Programme (Level 5).
At Haverfordwest Seals Swimming Club we look at the swimmer as a whole – it is not just about swimmer’s times/PBs, age or speed in training. We look for technique (as per the Framework), stamina (with continued technique), coachability and a willingness to learn & improve.
Our coaches are all voluntary and are working hard to ensure your child develops into the best swimmer they want to be. Please help to support them with this and trust the process laid down by Swim Wales.
How can I help as a Parent/carer?
Please help the coaches and your swimmer by:
- ensuring they are on time for training (obviously sometimes this is unavoidable)
- ensuring your swimmer has the appropriate kit at every session
- ensuring they are being fuelled properly with adequate rest
- Supporting the coaches and your swimmer when trying new events.
- Getting Involved! We always need parents to help the general running of the club. Not comfortable coming on poolside? That’s absolutely fine, our social/fundraising area is in regular need of more help.
What is expected of your swimmer?
In the Pathway Squad the emphasis is on training hard whilst having fun. Your swimmer should be adopting a more focused attitude towards training and competitions, combined with a drive to improve their swimming.
We expect our swimmers to come ready to train, that means;
This can vary from child to child as we follow the Athlete Development Support Pathway (ADSP) as part of the Swim Wales Framework.
Progression
There is no need to move beyond this squad whilst the swimmer is happy. As the swimmer gets older (as a guide 15yrs plus) they may feel more comfortable moving to our Youth Squad.
